The character was originally created for the Batman Animated Series as a sidekick for Detective Bullock. Montoya was quickly introduced into DC Comic continuity with this issue.

Batman # 442 has been signed by creators, writer Marv Wolfman at New York Comic Con 2018, artist Pat Broderick at Boston Comic Con 2016 and Editor Dennis O'Neil at East Coast Comic Con 2019. A Brooklyn Comic Shop representative witnessed each of the signatures in person. Comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity (C.O.A). This Batman Print is hand signed by inker Joe Giella (b. 1928) in black sharpie pen.   Joe Giella is best known as the DC Comics inker for Carmine Infantino during the 1950's and 1960's. He worked as a ghost artist for Bob Kane on Batman, as well as many of the early Flash (Barry Allen) and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) comics of that era. He is credited with inking the first appearance of the Justice League of America. Joe Giella’s signature on this print was witnessed by the Brooklyn Comic Shop at the East Coast Comic Con 2019 in New York. The comic comes with a Certificate of Authenticity C.O.A.
