SIGNED by John Romita Jr. and Chris Claremont.

Date: November, 1985

Creative Team: John Romita, Jr. (Artist), Chris Claremont (Writer), Dan Green (Inker)

Condition Notes: Very Fine

Story Notes:

This issue features the first appearance of Phoenix II as well as Freedom Force. The story also features a holocaust survivor reunion in Washington D.C. and leads to the Trial of Magneto.

The story begins with Rachel Summers (the alternate reality daughter of Jean Grey and Cyclops) contemplating how to reveal her parentage to Cyclops. At the same time it is revealed that Professor X is dying. Meanwhile, Mystique makes a deal with the federal government to reform the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants as a superhero team under the complete control of the U.S. Government in exchange for amnesty. The new team is called Freedom Force, which is then tasked to bring Magneto to trial.

Rachel Summers travels to Jean Grey’s parents house and breaks in when the house is empty. She is taunted by the Phoenix Force. As she encounters the holomatrix globe, the full power of the Phoenix is released. She embraces it as a force for good and becomes Phoenix II.

Back in Washington D.C., Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) attends the Washington National Holocaust Memorial and encounters Magneto. Magneto’s Jewish origins are alluded to here but not specifically stated.

The conference is interupted by Freedom Force and a battle with the X-Men ensue. Ultimately, Magneto offers himself up to stand trial.

Signature Notes: This comic is signed by John Romita, Jr. (Artist) and Chris Claremont (Writer). These are vintage signatures from 1987. They have been examined and certified as authentic by the Brooklyn Comic Shop.

Batman # 428 Death of Jason Todd Robin II
Condition Notes: Mid-Grade Condition with minimal cover wear. Item Notes: Batman # 428 features the Death of Jason Todd (Robin II). Jason Todd, the second Robin, was controversial from his inception as a replacement for Dick Grayson (the first Robin). Created by Gerry Conway for Batman #357, Todd was a mirror image of Dick Grayson with the exception that he had blonde hair that he dyed when appearing as Robin. After Crisis on Infinite Earths, Jason Todd's origin was dramatically altered to re-envision him as street kid. Jason Todd hereafter was depicted as questioning, petulant and had a tendency to be more extreme than Batman, even killing in one instance. In the Death In The Family storyline Jason Todd as Robin had been beaten by the Joker. The end of the comic featured a 1-900 telephone number to allow fans to determine his fate. While an alternate ending was created to show Robin had lived, the fan vote determined the fate of Jason Todd to die. Batman #428 revealed the outcome of the fan vote.
