This 64 page story was created by the legendary Thor team artist/writer, Walter Simonson and John Workman, letterer. It was the very first comic to advertise the upcoming Death of Superman storyline. In the story, a duplicate Superman made of sand emerges to confront Superman. Created by Lex Luthor, the Sand Superman fights Superman and in the process destroys much of Luthor's supply of Kryptonite.
This comic is signed by Walter Simonson (Artist), Geoff Darrow (Pin-Up Artist), and Mike Carlin (Editor). All signatures were obtained by a Brooklyn Comic Shop representative. Comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity (C.O.A).

This 64 page story was created by the legendary Thor team artist/writer, Walter Simonson and John Workman, letterer. It was the very first comic to advertise the upcoming Death of Superman storyline, which appears as a graphic on the cover. In the story, a duplicate Superman made of sand emerges to confront Superman. Created by Lex Luthor, the Sand Superman fights Superman and in the process destroys much of Luthor’s supply of Kryptonite.
At the time, this comic book was theorized to hold key details regarding the Death of Superman storyline. Fans believed that the Sand Superman had replaced the real Superman, which would be held in stasis and return as the true Superman after the death of Doomsday. This theory was further backed by the comic’s inclusion of the Doomsday graphic on the cover.
The truth was later revealed by Simonson many years later that the publication of this issue was originally intended for 1991 but delays caused its later printing, and that there had never been ties to the Death of Superman story.
This issue features a gallery of Superman Pin-Ups by some of the top comic book creators including: Frank Miller, Todd McFarlane, Geoff Darrow, Michael Golden, Curt Swan, and Barry Windsor Smith.
