Batman # 245 SIGNED Neal Adams

Title: The Bruce Wayne Murder Case!

Date: October, 1972

Creative Team: Neal Adams (Artist), Dick Giordano (inker), Dennis O’Neil (Writer)

Condition Notes: Fine +

Story Notes:
There is a an election on the horizon in Gotham, and Bruce Wayne is dead! With two politicians accusing one another of playing a part in Wayne’s murder, the Batman must solve the crime and expose the crooked public servant.

This issue as part of Neal Adams and Dennis O’Neil’s groundbreaking work on Batman which reinvigorated the franchise. After the cancellation of the 1960’s Batman TV Series, the comic was typecast as old fashioned and neared cancellation. Carmine Infantino put in place a series of changes that would update the Batman by building on his Golden Age roots. Denny O’Neil along with other writers worked to develop stories that were more crime oriented. These stories focused on believable stories that touched on current themes such as political corruption, the environment, and drugs.

Infantino also brought Neal Adams over from Marvel to handle many of the covers as well as some of the interior artwork. At DC, Neal Adams artwork dominated the field for its sense of realism and drama. He won several awards and soon found himself the leader of a new generation of artists that changed the look of comics in the 1970’s known as the Bronze Age.

Signature Notes:

This comic is signed in silver Deco Marker by Neal Adams (Artist). The signature was obtained by a Brooklyn Comic Shop representative at the Royal Collectibles Store Signing on August 29, 2015.

Batman # 428 Death of Jason Todd Robin II
Condition Notes: Mid-Grade Condition with minimal cover wear. Item Notes: Batman # 428 features the Death of Jason Todd (Robin II). Jason Todd, the second Robin, was controversial from his inception as a replacement for Dick Grayson (the first Robin). Created by Gerry Conway for Batman #357, Todd was a mirror image of Dick Grayson with the exception that he had blonde hair that he dyed when appearing as Robin. After Crisis on Infinite Earths, Jason Todd's origin was dramatically altered to re-envision him as street kid. Jason Todd hereafter was depicted as questioning, petulant and had a tendency to be more extreme than Batman, even killing in one instance. In the Death In The Family storyline Jason Todd as Robin had been beaten by the Joker. The end of the comic featured a 1-900 telephone number to allow fans to determine his fate. While an alternate ending was created to show Robin had lived, the fan vote determined the fate of Jason Todd to die. Batman #428 revealed the outcome of the fan vote.
