Amazing Spiderman # 151 Spider Clone Saga John Romita Artwork

Date: December, 1975

Creative Team: Ross Andru (Artist), Len Wein (Writer), John Romita (Cover Artist)

Condition Notes: Mid Grade Condition

Story Notes: This issue features one of the most iconic Spiderman covers by John Romita. The issue also concludes the original Spider-Clone Saga storyline. The story opens with Spiderman having defeated the Clone, seemingly “destroys” the body by dumping it in a smokestack to protect his identity. At Empire State University, Peter, Mary Jane and Flash encounter Harry Osborn (who now has completely mentally blocked his role as the Green Goblin). Later, J. Jonah Jameson throws an engagement part for Betty Brant and Ned Leeds. The party is interrupted by a blackout caused by the Shocker. The story concludes with an homage to Amazing Spiderman # 33 by Steve Ditko, which sees Spiderman trapped under wreckage as water builds up around him.

The Spider-Clone Saga was revisited in a much expanded storyline during the 1990’s which lasted for several years. This continuation revealed that the Spider-Clone survived and lived under the identity of Ben Reilly. The 1990’s storyline lasted two years and saw the Spider Clone emerge from the shadows as the Scarlet Spider, and finally as Spiderman.
