Description

Star Wars (Marvel, 1977 series) # 105

Date: May, 1986

Creative Team: Cynthia Martin (Artist), Jo Duffy (Writer)

Condition Notes: Fine

Story Notes: Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker and company find themselves captive by the evil Nagai. This issue is one of the last Star Wars comics to be released by Marvel as well as the last products of the original Star Wars era (1977-1986) before the movie franchise and comic series’s revival in the 1990’s.

The original Marvel Star Wars series began in 1977 with a 6 part adaption of the first movie. The series was so successful that it became a regular monthly series that ran to issue #107 in 1986. The series included early concept appearances by Jabba the Hutt, adaptions of both Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The original Marvel series was also known for filling in adventures between and after the Star Wars movies. These stories include the return of Boba Fett, the origin of Mandalore, and the introduction of Darth Vader’s apprentice, Lumiya. The final issues #100-107 are much rarer due to lower production levels as the series concluded in 1986.

Batman # 428 Death of Jason Todd Robin II
Condition Notes: Mid-Grade Condition with minimal cover wear. Item Notes: Batman # 428 features the Death of Jason Todd (Robin II). Jason Todd, the second Robin, was controversial from his inception as a replacement for Dick Grayson (the first Robin). Created by Gerry Conway for Batman #357, Todd was a mirror image of Dick Grayson with the exception that he had blonde hair that he dyed when appearing as Robin. After Crisis on Infinite Earths, Jason Todd's origin was dramatically altered to re-envision him as street kid. Jason Todd hereafter was depicted as questioning, petulant and had a tendency to be more extreme than Batman, even killing in one instance. In the Death In The Family storyline Jason Todd as Robin had been beaten by the Joker. The end of the comic featured a 1-900 telephone number to allow fans to determine his fate. While an alternate ending was created to show Robin had lived, the fan vote determined the fate of Jason Todd to die. Batman #428 revealed the outcome of the fan vote.
