Item Notes: Iron Fist was created in 1974 by Gil Kane and Roy Thomas in the pages of Marvel Premiere # 15-24. The character’s story continued in the Deadly Hands of Kung Fu Magazine where he teamed up with other martial arts based charachters. This black and white comic magazine was more gritty and violent and continued important elements of the character’s origin.
At the end of 1975, Iron Fist was awarded his own series by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. The series ran for only 15 issues but served to incorporate Iron Fist into the X-Men world as well as introducing Wolverine’s most famous nemesis, Sabertooth in Iron Fist # 14.
At the time of the cancellation of Iron Fist, the character merged with Luke Cage Powerman with issue # 48 of that series. The new Powerman and Iron Fist title was introduced with issue # 50 and ran until Iron Fist’s death in Powerman and Iron Fist # 125.
