This issue features the first appearance of the Champions team, which featured Hercules, Ghost Rider, Black Widow, Angel and Iceman. This issue also debuts Angel’s new costume.
During the 1970’s, the X-Men comic book veered on cancellation and had been in reprints for the past couple years. Marvel attempted to reuse and reformat the characters by mixing them into new areas, The Beast was redisgned as the hairy creature we know him to be today, and Iceman and Angel were transferred to a new team, the Champions.
The Champions team consisted of former Avengers and X-Men characters, and served as an introduction of Ghost Rider to readers of the more traditional superhero titles.
