G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Is now IN STOCK!

As the BrooklynComicShop.com expands its offering of action figures, today we happy to announce a range of figures and vehicles from the history of G.I. Joe: The Real American Hero!

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero began in 1982 as a toyline that also concurrently had a comic book line published by Marvel to help build the background of the featured figures.

Hasbro Toys commissioned Marvel which worked with Sunbow Productions to create 30 second cartoon ads for the toyline and comic. The ads were so popular that Sunbow expanded them into two 5 part 30 minute animated features which aired in 1983 and in 1984. By 1985 G.I. Joe was picked up for a full season and continued with a cartoon series through 1992.

The original toyline ran from 1982 to 1995 and included hundreds of characters and vehicles. The series was revived as Toys R Us exclusives from 1997-2000, which relied on recolored and reused molds. The series saw a true revival first with a new comic series by Image, a new toyline, and cartoon series. This revival eventually lead to two full length feature live action films.

G.I. Joe: 25th Anniversary line debuted in 2007 to mark 25 years of the 3 3/4″ style Joes. The line featured updated articulation and an emphasis on detailed sculpting and accessories.

Due to popularity, the line continued past its “25th” branding to this day and has incorporated both cartoon series and movie lines into its scale and format. The line currently continues as a Fan Club Exclusive internet subscription with supplemental retail exclusives available at Toys ‘R’ Us.
