New Golden Age & Silver Age Comic Collection Preview

by Joshua H. Stulman

We recently completed an acquisition of a childhood 1950’s Golden Age / Silver Age collection.

This collection dates from 1948-1957 and was a compilation of collections belonging to 3 childhood friends. They took care of the comics and many of these survived in Mid-Grade condition. Some have even exceeded expectations in condition.

The collection follows the popular themes of the time. The earlier comics emphasize younger interests such as Cartoon humor books like Tubby, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry and a variety of Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge Disney Comics. Romance comics include Golden Age Patsy Walker (of Netflix Jessica Jones fame), Archie, Betty & Veronica, Katey Keene and Suzie Comics.

As the child collectors mature the genres include Western Themes and Crime. Western Comics include Gene Autrey, Witches’ Western Stories and more. By the mid 1950’s and nearing adolescence, the interest shifts again to Super-Hero stories and Auto Racing. The Super-Hero books include some Batman and Captain Marvel comics. However, the majority of these books center on early Adventure Comics (w/ early Aquaman & Green Arrow stories), Superboy, and Superman.

There is also a small collection of Space Sci-Fi. These include Weird Science, Flash Gordon, and Tom Corbett, Space Cadet.

A large portion of the Super-Hero Golden Age and Silver Age comics are highlighted in this video.

These will be made available for sale soon!
